  NARRATOR

Gail Vittori

Region: Hill Country

Topics:  Sustainable Building, Solid Waste, Land Use, Non-Profits

Ms. Vittori is co-director of the Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems in Austin, Texas, where she has sought to help promote more sustainable design and construction. Through publications, internships, workshops, and demonstrations, she and other staff and volunteers at the Center promote architectural and planning reform that will reduce energy and water use, lower toxic exposures and wastewater releases, and rely more on local materials and labor. She has been particularly active in promoting rainwater harvesting as a local, inexpensive, low-impact way of providing water. Also, she has taken the lead in Austin-area efforts to reduce municipal solid waste through more pay-as-you-throw, market-based solutions.
