Mr. Grantham has lived in Corpus Christi and Rockport, Texas,
during assignments with the National Audubon Society. He is a field
botanist and ornithologist who has worked since 1971 in Pennsylvania,
California, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, Texas and elsewhere conducting
field research and natural inventories, managing endangered species
restoration programs, and acquiring and operating sanctuary lands.
Most of his career however, was with the Audubon Society, where he
served as Texas director of bird conservation and Texas sanctuaries
manager. Audubon staff like Mr. Grantham have worked in the state to
protect Texas' 620+ resident and migratory bird species since 1899,
through conservation education, management of 13,000 acres of leased
rookery islands, and coordination of habitat protection on private
lands. Mr. Grantham recently retired from Audubon and currently works
for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in California, managing
wildlife refuges and helping with the recovery of the California
condor.
